Green-Works is very proud to be supporting the amazing work of Claire Curtis Thomas (MP for Crosby) and the linked communities of Waterloo, Sierra Leone and Waterloo, Liverpool
Their vision is to rebuild the infrastructure of a town that was utterly devastated by civil war.
The centre piece will be a new stunning library in the heart of the township.
As that is being designed and built Green-Works has already been able to supply vital furniture to every one of the 37 schools in Waterloo as well as to the community centre and the health centre.
|
Vital furniture I hear you say?
Yes, vital; most schools there are made from mud with palm frond or rice sacks for roofs.
Without proper storage for books they would be soaked and unusable within days.
Some of the schools have no seating for the children and hardly any schools have seats or desks for the teachers despite the fact that they often work 10 hours a day teaching two separate classes (one on the morning the second in the afternoon).
|
Meanwhile, the land for the library has been acquired and surveyed and the ground works will begin in October 2008.
A project manager has been appointed and the contractors found.
Local people are being recruited for the training schemes that are linked to the project.
Green-Works will supply all the furniture in the library including up to 13kms of shelving made from reclaimed desktops.
