About Us
Green Works was founded by Colin Crooks, the current CEO in 2000. Colin was aware of the huge volume of office furniture that was routinely land-filled and that many third sector organisations could not afford decent furniture. The task for Green Works was to match the market for recycled office furniture with the supply source.
Colin’s initial objectives (which still form the cornerstones of the operation today) were:
- To protect the environment through the diversion of waste away from landfill.
- To reduce the operating costs of charities.
- To create employment and training for marginalised people.
Today Green Works is an award winning charity. As a not for profit social enterprise it is unique in providing a national service managing and recycling redundant office furniture on an industrial scale.

The service is provided through a growing network of delivery partners, each established charities and social enterprises in their own right… all working to support and regenerate their local communities, often in deprived inner city locations.
We have redirected second-hand office furniture to over 5,000 organisations including schools, charities and small businesses, saving them over £2.5m in the process.
We have made and facilitated donations of second-hand office furniture to several deprived regions of the world.
We have created over 80 jobs for marginalized people (in contrast to the 2 jobs that would have been created if the furniture had gone to landfill).
