Clerkenwell Design Week

Colin Crooks, Green-Works CEO will be hosting 2 presentations on Tuesday 25 May at Clerkenwell Design Week, covering aspects of sustainability and re-use of furniture.

Clerkenwell Design Week is a three-day annual festival celebrating London’s creative heart. This festival will offer exclusive product launches from some of the worlds leading design brands as well as exciting seminars, workshops, art installations and music. It’s the ideal chance for creatives to network in a relaxed yet stimulating environment. It will inspire, educate and entertain! 

Designing in Sustainability

There is an increasing amount of discussion about the carbon content of manufactured items but what is still often ignored is the enormous material and social cost associated with extracting raw materials and developing them in to manufactured products.

Colin Crooks CEO of Green-Works will discuss the impacts of extracting or logging the raw material that are essential to creating new furniture.

His presentation will cover why accredited supply chains are so important in terms of protecting the environment and in protecting the livelihoods of vulnerable communities. Moreover he will show how good design makes a significant difference to sustainability by potentially reducing the amount of material required both ion the short and long terms.

The Third World: The Realities of Re-use

Re-use is becoming more and more important in the waste disposal route. It can massively help all sorts of organisations especially those in developing world.

Colin Crooks will talk about Green-Works efforts to divert unwated furniture to Sierra Leone where it is having a massive impact on day-to-day lives of local people; especially the benefits of cabinets and books.
